Winemaker. Explorer. Founder.
I’m Riley Roddick (formerly Hubbard), and my journey with wine has taken me across the globe—but it all started in Encinitas, where I was born and raised.
Following high school, I studied Agricultural Business and Viticulture at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and got my first real taste of winemaking at L’Aventure Winery in Paso Robles. Working under the legendary Stephan Asseo, I did it all – harvest, production, vineyard work, and tasting room – and even lived on the property for a few years. That immersive experience shaped everything I’ve done since.
Driven to keep learning, I ventured abroad to work harvest at Torbreck Winery in Australia’s Barossa Valley, then joined the Vinafera Euromaster program, a master’s in viticulture and enology with a global focus. I studied in Montpellier and Bordeaux in France, worked at Domaine d’Aupilhac in Montpeyroux, and completed my thesis on organic viticulture while living in Udine, Italy, in the heart of Friuli.
The time I spent in Europe deeply shaped my philosophy as a winemaker. The thoughtful farming, restrained cellar practices, and respect for terroir continues to influence my winemaking today in every vintage of Hubba Wines.
Back on California’s Central Coast, I worked as assistant winemaker at Law Estate Wines and Desparada Wines, and now consult for Red Door Ranch Wines, based in Paso Robles.
Hubba Wines is an ever-evolving reflection of the places I’ve been, the people I love, and the wines I believe in. My wines are rooted in curiosity, made with intention, and meant to be shared—with friends, food, and whatever the day brings.
